Classic psychedelic acid rock, with fuzz guitars rooted by Eastern percussion, the album includes a rocked up version of Donovan's 'Season Of The Witch', and a version of Willie Dixon's 'Back Door Man', which manages to be even heavier than the one on the Doors first album. 'You're Alone Now' became quietly influential, acting as a forerunner to Hawkwind's seminal 'The Watcher', and having an intro that brings to mind Black Sabbath's 1970 smash 'Paranoid'. The album ends with the gentlest song of Lemmy's career, the rather lovely 'Yesterlove', which has Lemmy's vocal floating over a backing of tabla and acoustic guitar. Sadly, despite having all ingredients for success, 'Sam Gopal' was not long-lived and broke up after the release of this album.
